In 2021, there were more than 27.04 million registered readers in Zhejiang province, increased by 6.4% year-on-year. Public libraries around the province expended their collection to around 104.92 million pieces with 8.6 million new arrivals.

According to 65.4 million permanent residents of Zhejiang province in 2021, the average circulation should be 0.6 pieces.

The total number of circulation in 2021 reached 42.88 million pieces which worth 1.63 billion Yuan. The total lending period was 3.47 million years. The circulation contained more than 6.92 billion pages. If we count 0.75 cm per 100 pages, the thick of the circulation would be 518.7 km.

The gender ratio of registered readers was 50.8:49.2. The number of male readers was a little bit higher than that of female.

In different age groups, the gender ratios of readers were different. Readers born after 2010 and in 1960s contained more male readers than female, while the readers born in 1970s, 1980s and 1990s had the greater gender gap. The readers born in 1980s contained twice female readers than male.

About the number of circulation in different cities, Wenzhou had the highest, 9.66 million pieces, followed by Hangzhou, 8.99 million pieces and Ningbo, 5.19 million pieces.

Affected by the epidemic, the circulation in 2021 was higher than that of 2020. 40.7% book lending happened on weekends, while Sundays had the highest amount. 10 am. and 3 pm. were two peaks of book lending. 21.4% annual lending happened between these two time periods. 19.4% renewal happened between 1 pm. to 3 pm., which was the peak of the year renewal.

Literature is still the favorite for readers of any gender, age and region, followed by linguistic and arts.
